Series 2: Tips for Professional Cleaners. Tip 4 – VACUUM FILTERS

Filters are the main cause of why a vacuum is not working to its optimum.

Vacuum cleaners have filters to prevent dust escaping back into the air so it is an important link in the chain to cleaning any home.

We have discussed how important it is that it’s working. I once worked for a client who had a Henry vacuum but there was no way we could put the bag on as the internal fixture had broken. The filter would fill up to all possible levels. I had to vacuum without it and it took me three times longer to pick up the dust and pieces.

It was incredibly frustrating and put me under unnecessary pressure. It also triggered my asthma as the filter was so blocked that the dust blew back into the air.

Remember – each vacuum will have a filter somewhere! Even the Dyson vacuum cleaners need to be taken out and rinsed and dried overnight. So, it is important that if you can’t clean it in the time you are at your clients property you make sure your client is aware it needs to be done.

Ask them specifically to do it on a regular basis. I would say at least every month.

With most other vacuums it’s easy to take them out and you can take them outside and literally beat them on the wall to get the dust out.. but the Mieles will have new filters you can cut to size so every time you change the bag it’s recommended you change the filter as well.

So again please, please, please take the necessary time to understand your vacuum cleaner and specifically familiarise yourself on how to clean the filters.
