My next tip is all about how to remove cobwebs.
There are three most frequently used ways:
- With a feather duster – this is the most traditional way. I am not too keen on this one. When you remove the cobwebs like this from high up they can just fall down and you may not find where they have fallen and pick them up as part of your housekeeping job.
- Microfiber dusters – they often have nice long extenders. What is good about these is that the cobwebs actually stick to the end so you don’t have to worry about them falling to the ground, into a pot or to a surface.
- Vacuum – my favourite to use for the task! Vacuums have long hoses and they have specific parts that you can put onto the end of the hose. These are usually brush-like and that allow you to very safely remove the cobwebs and that is my preference.
BUT, I want to point something out. My clients have often said to me, “Look, my previous housekeeper used to take the end off the vacuum hose and remove them with the end of it but without the specialist part on it”. What that does is it can leave scratch marks on the ceiling or on the walls and this can be very, very costly.
One of the things I always do before taking on a new client when we first walk around, I always check for any of those marks that are already there, so that I can point them out to the client. This is important so that they know it was not me who caused that damage. I would also reassure them at the same time that we use the correct attachments on the vacuum to ensure a really lovely finish.
