Series 2: Tips for Professional Cleaners. Tip 9 – FINAL CHECK

We are nearly there – this is tip 9, The Final Check.

We have already talked about some of the aspects of the final check – such as not leaving the personal equipment around, and doing the safety check, making sure that the windows and doors are locked or shut correctly and the chimney fires are not burning.

However, to really give it that extra “Wow” factor – do this. Zooming In and Zooming Out. This is one of my tips from the cleaning principles I talked about previously.

To recap, what this entails is this. Before I leave a client’s property after I have done a clean I will start at the top of the house and go into each room, step back and do a quick tour of the room, just to check that I have not missed anything. Then, I will also stand back at the door and look – what I am looking for when “zooming out” is for anything that needs just a final little touch of presentation.

For example:

  • Curtains might need to be hung evenly and beautifully
  • Cushions need arranging and plumping
  • Rugs that might need straightening
  • Lamp shades standing symmetrically and upright
  • The books and/or magazines are nicely organised and presented on the shelves and coffee tables

I always check when I “zoom out” that I don’t have a funny feeling when I look at a room and it grates on me that something is not perfect.

Zooming in and out needs to be done in each room you cleaned.

With the bathroom, make sure the toilet roll is beautifully placed, the products are nicely laid out, towels are either nicely folded or hung.

In the kitchen, make sure that any items that are out of the cupboards are symmetrically arranged in height order. The kettle perhaps should be by the sink, for example – just make sure it is exactly how the client wants it.

Do ask your client when you start working with them, whether they have any “bug bears” that annoy them. It is the attention to small details that will make you stand out amongst other cleaners and give your client that amazing feeling when they walk in!
