September will be here very soon and it means that time is coming for autumn ailments – colds and flu. As we are in the middle of a pandemic, many of you will be worried about how to minimise the risks of catching the autumn bugs. Many medical experts say that thoroughly cleaning your house in autumn is a great way to give yourself a chance for a healthier winter.
These are a few more things we do for our clients when doing autumn clean:
As the temperature drops and central heating comes on, it creates a breeding haven for germs, bacteria, mites, and mold. These tend to thrive in winter but it is easy to prevent. Think about the food crumbs, spillages, dead skin cells, and sweat that accumulate in these every day!
Most duvets, pillows, and mattress protectors can be washed at 60 degrees in domestic washing machines. But do try to either tumble dry – if you can’t then try to time it so you can dry the washing outside. This is why.
The biggest problem is once the central heating goes on, we dry our washing inside – particularly as we have these rainy British winters. Warm moist air combined with a lack of ventilation makes germs flourish. To combat this, try to open the windows and balcony/conservatory doors as much as possible.
To prevent seasonal bacteria passed via germ-ridden hands and shoes, ensure that all surfaces are properly cleaned with an anti-bacterial cleaner. Do not just focus on the kitchen and bathroom. Pay attention to the door and frequently used cupboard handles. This is particularly vital if children are around.
The beginning of autumn is an excellent time to have your carpets professionally cleaned. If you are on a tight budget – hiring a professional vacuum with a professional-strength liquid might be a cheaper alternative.
Stay safe and have a great weekend!
