How we make a beautiful bed.
A bed must always be inviting and scrumptious. We want the bed to serve its purpose and look both comfy and enticing. Bed making is all about making lines and creating layers, they don’t all have to be vertical or straight, we just do the best with what we’ve got. Ironing Some may not believe in ironing, like many of us. This video will show you how to work with what you have and make the best of it.
Bottom Sheet
So, first, and this is an absolute must, stretch out the bottom sheet, make sure that it is tucked tightly over each corner and smoothed over with your hand. Whilst doing this make sure that there are no hairs, this is the last thing you want to see when climbing into bed.
The Duvet
Next is time for the duvet, make sure that the buttons are at the bottom of the bed. Whilst positioning your duvet make sure that the duvet cover is correctly fitted. Once the duvets in place, pull the edges down and then you can start the process of straightening it, the reason we do this is to hide the fact it hasn’t been ironed. One of the lovely things about doing this is that after a few days, the creases tend to come out anyway.
Tucking in?
Some housekeepers will tuck their duvet which can cause restriction. Although the bed may look nice upon arrival however this will be very annoying once you get into the bed. You’re going to be tugging on the duvet trying to get it loose. Beds should be free and from experience tucking the duvet is restricting.
Pillows
Next, its pillows, there are two ways of doing the pillows. If the pillows are floppy, they must be led flat one on top of the other. However, if they’re nice and taut stand them upright with the opening of the pillowcases touching in the middle. To get the pillows to stand nicely, pinch the top corners and place it neatly. When the pillows are stood upright it gives the bed more depth. When the pillows are flat it will support a large bed with multiple cushions.
Throws
When working with a throw we must first make sure we are working with an equal amount either side. It must cover the end of the duvet but not touch the floor, again make it equal. Now with the rest of the throw at the top of the bed we must create some layers by folding, keeping it straight. The purpose of this is to make it look less flat and sterile. Otherwise, the bed can start to look like a hospital bed. There’s no right or wrong, it’s all a very artistic technique.
Scatter Cushions
Lastly the cushions must be placed in front of the pillows with the zippers at the bottom. There are a few different ways to place cushions, you can angle them, place them straight or what we call “kung fu” them (use your hand to create a crease or fold in the top or sides of a cushion). Again, make sure that you’re placing them evenly and are consistent with your technique.
