If the housekeeper has at least 3 to 6 months’ experience that will be of benefit to you.
It does take a little bit of time for the housekeeper to become efficient at what they do and to become confident with their processes.
I like to make sure that all my housekeepers are aware of the four cleaning tips from my first series -these will provide you with some guidance as to the proper, professional process of cleaning.
If you decide to take on someone who does not have that experience, it will take some patience – I know from my own experience, when I first started it took me six months before I had total confidence in what I was doing. So it is of great benefit to you if your housekeeper is experienced – but if not, have a look at my first tip about having a very specific brief to provide your housekeeper with good guidance to go by.
There is, however, a downside to housekeepers having experience – and that is sometimes they can get into bad habits.
I have taken on experienced housekeepers before who were explained the processes and who ticked every box BUT when it came to actually delivering the service on behalf of my business, when I was not there their behaviours changed.
I will give you an example. Some of my cleaners said they would be using eco-products in line with the training, but when they got there they got out their Windowlene out of their bag and just used it on everything around the house. That is not the right methodology to use in your home!
It is very important that you explain to your housekeeper which products you like used – whether they are eco- or not. Obviously, I like to use products that are as natural as possible – it is not only better for your health but brings the property out much cleaner.
