Series 3: Hiring a Housekeeper. Tip 5 – HOUSEKEEPING BOOK

Finally, once you think you have found your housekeeper I would do this.

This is one of my most brilliant tips, I feel. A housekeeper will hopefully be there with you for a long time – as long as you might need them. I always make sure that I have a housekeeping book, even if the owner is in the property when the cleaning takes place.

Having a book where your housekeeper can make notes of things they need from the owner, or issues they have noticed during the cleans, is also an opportunity for the homeowner to make comments on things they really appreciated, which is a real boost. Also, as they have developed a relationship with the housekeeper to note things they would like done(a wish list, if you like, such as a deep clean).

At the front you would have a list of the tasks to be done, how often and how deep.

Further section is for the housekeepers to make notes of what they have done and make observations and recommendations as they learn your home. For example, they might feel that pictures should be removed and the surface cleaned behind or modern radiators that go all the way to the ceiling might need a bit of equipment that goes right behind to remove dust and cobwebs. This is a great opportunity for the housekeeper to show how much they care and how much thought they put into their work. It is also a good place for them to promote what they have done and the extras they have put in, or indeed, the difficulties they have experienced. It is a very useful communication tool that will show how much effort your housekeeper has put into your beautiful home.

Always leave a comment in response to the housekeeper’s note – even if it is just a smiley face saying “Thank you”!
