#Trending: HOW TO SLEEP IN HOT WEATHER

It is 30 degrees today and it is Friday, our busiest day, the team are working flat out. It’s hard. All of us had poor sleep last night. I hope it will be better tonight as we will all be exhausted, BUT tonight is going to be even hotter.

I have decided to take a brief break from our Layering Scents series until it cools down. Let’s face it – not many of you will be inclined to do anything other than enjoy the sunshine or hide from it in a cool bath. I bet many of you are dreading going to sleep tonight. Insomnia is such a common problem these days as it is. Add a sticky hot night – the anticipation of it is enough to fill one with anxiety.

This is what I do. You will find some tips very surprising.

  1. Place a bowl of ice cold water on your bedside table and place a few drops of lavender essential oil in it. Before going to sleep and during the night, soak a cloth in it, ring out slightly and place around your neck. I find the coolness against the throat arteries really cools me down.
  2. Above tip also works well on a face mask. I always wear one as the days are long and I go to sleep very early, as we start work at 6 am. There are some gel masks that you can buy in most Boots and online. Placing one in the fridge is fantastic for keeping cool and eliminating morning puffiness.
  3. Place cotton socks in the fridge for a few hours and put them on when you go to bed. Before putting them on – rub your feet with peppermint or eucalyptus oil, which has a wonderful cooling effect. Keeping your feet cool really helps.
  4. Cold camomile tea. Make a pint, cool it and keep by your bedside in case you wake up thirsty. It will quench you and calm you at the same time.
  5. Fill a hot water bottle with ice cold water and place your hands/wrists on it whilst you drift off.

Happy Friday to all – I hope you have a restful sleep and a great weekend!
